Today is a special day. Today is my 24th wedding anniversary. While many things are going on around us. I just want to take a small moment and recognize a person who has stood beside me and supported my artwork since literally the day that I met her. I have said many times that my sponsors, my backers are the ones that keep me going, but, in truth, my wife Shannon is the hinge point that everything rests on.
24 years.
24 years she has listened to harebrained ideas, get rich quick schemes, mad tirades, and everything in between. Never once has she said “no.” Never once has she said, “don’t try it.” I remember the day that I gave her the first cartoon that I made of her. I remember like it was yesterday. The look of shock on her face, the look of surprise, and the warm feeling that radiated from her, I knew she was the one right there.
Years and hundreds of love notes later, she now enjoys when others get after me about my artwork and share in the feelings that she has expressed for years. I hope all of you have someone like this in your life or at least looking for someone who makes you feel like she does for me. Many of you will make fun of this simple truth that I could not have gotten this far without her, but, the truth is she is the reason why I sit here today. Confident, self assured, and clever.
Thank you, Shannon for helping me breathe life into all these lines. Thank you for having the courage to whisper in my ear, “go get ‘em!” Thank you for seeing the man when everyone else sees the monster. I love you.
