Blog: What do you REALLY get from a Vacation?!

Up early in the morning, fighting to find a parking spot for the car, waiting for a shuttle, fighting all the crowd at the airport for TSA and baggage, to say nothing of the people at the gate to get on a tiny plane to repeat all said processes when you get there, just to find a quiet place that costs you hundreds of dollars.

What is the point?!

I know many of you think that when Shannon and I go on vacation it’s because we can’t afford it. And I’m just going to explain it like this; if you are waiting for the right time to take a vacation when you’ve got all the money, you’re gonna be waiting for a while …a long while.

We don’t go on vacation because it’s trendy, we don’t go on vacation because everybody else is doing it. We go on vacation because her and I need to get away.

I read a book many years ago that talked about love languages and how you need to find your partners love language, and “invest in them.” and I have to tell you I highly agree with it. In the day to day business of our lives, I am constantly looking out for me and when everything ceases to move and you are stuck hundreds of miles away from home it forces you to change your mind…

… From “I” to “We.”

The other aspect of a vacation is re-centering yourself. Every now and then you need to come up and take a fresh breath air and then you need to turn and look at yourself in the mirror and say; “There are better things out there.”

It is absolutely imperative that you do this or you’ll become so overburdened you won’t be able to tell which way is up.

When we go on vacation, it re-starts our relationship, shines it up like a new penny, and with the help of some immature“ing” reminds me that this is why we are doing all of these crazy things at home, going in six different directions at once. I know I have written on this before, but I still hear from people I know on how “Crazy I am to always want to go down to Disney.” There is one important fact that they are forgetting…… Disney is OUR spot.

Don’t think that for one second that Shannon has not made a plan of places to go, things to see, things that she wants to go shopping for or even architecture that she wants to go look at. When she brings me that list of things that she wants to do, my job on this vacation is to say; “Where do you wanna start?”

All week I have been publishing cartoons about get out get up go enjoy the world, go on vacation, simply put, go do it. Don’t wait until later you will be sorry.

Nuff said.

Get out there and go make your mark!
